Organic growing is becoming more popular due to the questionable effects of toxins and pesticides on the body and the environment. Additionally, most organic gardening techniques cost very little money. Here are some fundamental tips to get you well on your way to being a successful organic gardener.

When you are cultivating an organic garden inside, you should think about the lighting situation. Ideally, these plants should be kept in a room that offers natural light from a window or glass door. You can also get special lamps if you want a different kind of plants.

To be most efficient in your gardening, always keep your tools close at hand. For example, you could use an over-sized tote bag or an apron with multiple pockets. Keep gloves, small pruning shears, a trowel and any other tools handy in order to increase the quickness of the work that goes into your garden.

Paying attention to spacing is important. As plants grow and spread out, you will not always know how much space will be required. The plants will inevitably need to unfurl and spread, but they also need the circulation of air from open spaces. Therefore, ensure that you allow for ample spaces between your seedlings.

In your compost, use green and dried plants in equal parts. When you pull weeds from your garden, throw them in the compost. The same goes for vegetable trimmings and grass clippings. These are considered green materials. For the dry end of the spectrum, think of things like paper and cardboard, sawdust, hay, etc. Diseased plants, meat and fire-waste like charcoal or ashes should not be placed in your compost pile.

For the best results when growing an organic garden, you should shake your seeds up a little bit. After planted, make sure you agitate the seeds at least twice daily, using your fingers or even a Popsicle stick. This probably sounds like an odd recommendation, but research has shown that this technique encourages more plant growth, than no petting at all.

Depending on the season and weather, adjust your watering habits. When watering your plants, consider the time you are watering them, the kind of soil you are using and how good the water is. If the climate is hot, but humid you’ll have to avoid watering the leaves, for example. Make sure you give the roots plenty of water.

If you over-water your plants, they can’t get all the nutrients they need from the dirt. Always check the weather forecast for chances of rain before going outside to water your plants. If it is going to be a wet day, you don’t need to water the plants yourself.

Most people favor organically grown fruits and vegetables for their cleanliness and the fact that they are not grown with harmful pesticides. While this is great for your loved ones’ health, still check for pests and bugs.

Once you start to actually apply what you learned from this article you can start growing a prosperous and healthy organic garden in your own back yard for the future. Keep in mind that you can expect to see increase in wildlife when your garden begins to grow and work with nature.
